Gurugram Metro Phase 2 Gets Rs. 16.62 bn Tender

Gurugram Metro Rail (GMRL) has invited bids for a Rs. 16.62 bn Phase 2 priority corridor connecting Sector 9 with DLF Cyber Hub. The World Bank will fund the project, which will cover 14.2 km and include 13 stations and double-decker flyovers at Bajghera and Old Delhi Road.

The planned stations are at Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera Road, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, Sector 23A, Sector 22, Udyog Vihar Phase 4, Udyog Vihar Phase 5 and Cyber City. Station designs will account for peak-hour demand, with platforms sized for six-coach trains.

Under the tender, the selected contractor will survey the viaduct alignment, carry out geotechnical tests at foundation points and construct piles, pier caps and U-type girders. The scope also includes double-decker sections measuring about 800 metres at Bajghera and 1.2 km on Old Delhi Road, with road flyovers on the lower level and metro viaducts above.

The contractor will prepare traffic diversion plans in coordination with the Gurugram Traffic Police and deploy marshals, cones and signboards to support safe movement during construction. Bids can be submitted between 9 and 18 November, while the work is scheduled for completion within 30 months of the award.

GMRL has said the tender gives priority to quality, timely delivery, cost control and the contractor’s record of completing projects. The detailed project report estimates peak-hour peak-direction traffic at 34,309 trips by 2041.

Phase 1, a 15.2-km corridor with 14 stations between Millennium City Centre and Sector 9, has achieved about 15 per cent physical progress. The Phase 2 tender is intended to extend the network towards Cyber Hub and improve connectivity across key residential, commercial and office districts in Gurugram.
