Here's how Agra is mitigating its transportation issue

Agra! A city of monuments and the land of the Taj Mahal attracts millions of tourists from across the globe. Its narrow roads and old infrastructure have been overwhelmed by the weight of the increasing population and tourist traffic. As a result, the city has been witnessing a rise in vehicle count, leading to dense traffic congestion.The need of the hour has been to mitigate the transportation issue.The key solution was the Agra Metro Rail Project,which will serve over 6million tourists and 2.6 million locals annually. During the execution of the project, 18,230 saplings will be planted, making Agra a greener city.

The corridors

With an estimated budget of Rs 8,379.62 crore, the Agra Metro Rail Project has two corridors, with a total length of 29.40 km. The project is being partly funded by the Government of India and the Uttar Pradesh government on an equal equity basis, along with a Euro 480 million loan from the European Investment Bank.
