In 2023 and 2024, the Bengaluru Metro will expand by 40.15 km

Bangalore's Metro Rail network is expected to expand by 40.15 kilometers in the current fiscal year, according to recent announcements made by the Karnataka government. In the most recent state budget, the BJP government led by Basavaraj Bommai announced a sum of Rs 250,00 million for the ongoing Namma Metro projects for the fiscal years 2023-2024. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) is scheduled to launch more than 40 kilometers of the new Metro route during this time, according to the chief minister's statement to the Assembly.

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Scheme is currently operational with a 56-kilometer network. The Metro rail project, which spans 58.19 kilometers and has 30 stations and will connect Central Silk Board Junction to Kempegowda International Airport, is moving quickly. A new Metro route with a length of 40.15 kilometers is being planned to open this year, according to the budget document. According to BMRCL, this year will see the opening of the sections from Nagasandra to BIEC, Kengeri to Challaghatta, RV Road to Bommasandra, and Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield line.

The KR Puram to Whitefield line is currently undergoing trial runs and should be accessible to the general public by the end of March. Additionally, it is anticipated that the long-awaited Purple Line extension from Kengeri to Challaghatta will be operational by the middle of 2023.

The line that runs from RV Road station to Bommasandra via Jayadeva, Central Silk Board, and Electronics City is another significant section of phase II of the Bangalore Metro Rail Scheme. In addition, the metro route to BIEC is nearing completion.

The third phase of the metro network project has been proposed in accordance with the previous budget. A Detailed Project Report for two corridors with 31 stations and a total length of 44.65 kilometers has been submitted to the Central Government. This project is anticipated to cost Rs. 163,280 million. According to the budget document, the project will begin once it receives approval from the Indian government.
