Metro GM visits innovative battery storage at Surya Sen

Metro Railway's General Manager, Shri P Uday Kumar Reddy, conducted an inspection along the North-South Metro stretch, focusing on the upcoming Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Masterda Surya Sen Metro station on August 16, 2023. The BESS integrates inverters and Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Batteries, providing a dependable backup solution for power outages and grid failures. The system also holds the capability to move stalled trains to the nearest station in case of sudden power disruption, ensuring passenger comfort and safety even during challenging circumstances.

Commencing his evaluation journey from Jatin Das Park Metro station post operational hours, the GM progressed to the Masterda Surya Sen station. Notably, he assessed the newly implemented anti-door opening system within a Medha rake (MR-416). This cutting-edge safety mechanism prevents untimely door openings between stations and on the non-platform side. Shri Ashim Majumder, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, elucidated the functioning of the system to Shri Reddy during the inspection, along with other senior officials.

Shri Reddy expressed satisfaction with the system's performance and articulated optimism about its substantial contribution to passenger safety. The integration of innovative technologies like the BESS and safety features like the anti-door opening system exemplify the Metro Railway's commitment to enhancing both operational resilience and commuter well-being.
