Northern Railways, Jammu Industries Department Plan Logistics Upgrade

The Directorate of Industries and Commerce, Jammu, and the Jammu Division of Northern Railway held a high-level coordination meeting on Saturday to develop an efficient, cost-effective and integrated logistics and supply chain system for the region. The discussions focused on supporting Jammu’s expanding industrial requirements through improved transport infrastructure.

Senior government officials, railway policymakers and representatives of the industrial sector examined ways to improve freight transportation, strengthen railway connectivity and address logistical challenges faced by manufacturers, traders and other industrial establishments. The meeting also considered closer coordination between government departments, local manufacturing units and Indian Railways.

The initiative is aligned with the National Logistics Policy, which seeks to reduce logistics costs, improve operational efficiency, promote multimodal transportation and strengthen the competitiveness of businesses. Officials discussed how better integration between road, rail and industrial facilities could improve the movement of goods across the region.

The departments also outlined plans for future cargo terminals, dedicated industrial sidings and paperless digital tracking systems. These facilities are intended to be integrated with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan to improve last-mile connectivity for regional manufacturing hubs and provide more reliable freight services.

The collaboration is expected to create stronger institutional mechanisms for planning and executing logistics projects in Jammu. It will also help identify infrastructure gaps affecting local industries and support coordinated action on freight movement, terminal development and railway access.

The meeting forms part of efforts to align regional industrial growth with national logistics and infrastructure priorities. Improved rail connectivity and streamlined supply chains are intended to lower transportation costs, increase operational reliability and enable local businesses to compete more effectively in wider markets.
