PM Modi To Inaugurate 75 Redeveloped Railway Stations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 75 redeveloped railway stations from across India at Jalandhar in Punjab on July 17 under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He noted in a post on X that the projects will improve passenger experience and reflect the spirit of Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi, with works worth Rs 54 bn to be inaugurated or have foundation stones laid. The programme combines physical and virtual dedications to showcase upgraded passenger amenities and heritage elements.

He said other projects will enhance connectivity to Sri Anandpur Sahib and the Maa Chintpurni Temple and that a new train service between Amritsar and Varanasi will link prominent religious and cultural centres. Mr Modi is also scheduled to address a BJP rally in Jalandhar as the party prepares for the 2027 Punjab Legislative Assembly elections and has presented the events as part of a development agenda to boost prosperity and ease of living. Officials characterised the schedule as both political and infrastructural.

Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu said railway projects worth Rs 300 bn are under way and that world-class stations are being developed in Punjab at a projected cost of Rs 180 bn. Northeast Frontier Railway officials noted that Majbat in Assam and Jalpaiguri Road and Haldibari in West Bengal are among the 75 stations, with estimated project costs of about Rs 101.9 mn, Rs 348 mn and Rs 260 mn respectively. The works are intended to elevate accessibility and cultural aesthetics across the zone.

In Rajasthan the Jaisalmer station will be inaugurated virtually while a local ceremony will be attended by the Union Culture Minister and regional representatives; the project investment is Rs 1.4 bn and includes a 36-metre-wide air concourse. Railway Protection Force officials said 219 CCTV cameras have been installed and that coordination with other agencies will support security monitoring.
