Railways revives Yadadri MMTS Project for connectivity to Temple town

In a significant development to improve rail connectivity to the temple town, the railway authorities have announced the revival of the Yadadri Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) project due to the overwhelming demand from devotees. The objective of this project is to establish a seamless and cost-effective rail connection between Hyderabad and the temple town.

In response to the State government's request, the Central government granted approval for the 33-kilometer extension from Ghatkesar to Yadadri in 2016-17.

A few years ago, Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) prepared a comprehensive project report and revised the estimated cost to Rs 4.3 billion, which was subsequently submitted to both the railways and the state government.

The project will be implemented through a cost-sharing arrangement, with the state government contributing two-thirds of the total budget and the remaining one-third being borne by the railways. As part of its share, the State government is required to allocate Rs 2.9 billion. Previously, the South Central Railway (SCR) had invited tenders with the expectation that the State government would release its portion of funds. However, the tenders were later cancelled due to a lack of response from the government.

The project encompasses the construction of a new track from Ghatkesar to Yadadri, electrification of the line, procurement of new MMTS trains, and the provision of additional amenities.

Based on estimates, the cost of laying one kilometer of track exceeds Rs 100 million, and the Ghatkesar-Yadadri line necessitates the construction of a separate track spanning 33 kilometers, as well as electrification to facilitate MMTS train operations.

Passengers from Lingampally and Kacheguda will have the convenience of direct travel to Yadadri from their respective areas, as MMTS trains are scheduled to operate from various parts of the city on the third line from Ghatkesar.

Currently, only four trains are operational between Secunderabad and Yadadri. The majority of devotees from Hyderabad who visit the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple rely on buses and private vehicles for transportation.
