Railways to rent out decommissioned coaches to running restaurants

Indian Railways, which is working on a 'well-thought-out plan' to create additional money from non-operating sources and additional resources, is promoting a 'unique concept' of establishing Rail Coach Restaurants (RCR) across the country's practically all-important stations.

If the strategy proceeds as planned, the railway will create more than Rs 1000 crore in additional revenue per year by pushing the Rail Coach Restaurant idea across the country in the coming years.

So far, the railway has authorised private players to open Rail Coach Restaurants in roughly nine locations throughout multiple states, the most recent of which is at the New Jalpaiguri railway station.
