Work of laying track halts Indore Metro trial run

Indore Metro trial run, which was inaugurated by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on September 30 on an around 6 km ?super priority corridor?, is now halted for laying of a parallel second track line in the section.

After the CM flagged off the trial run, it continued only for a few days with testing of the tracks. For the past one and a half months, teams of engineers and workers are engaged in laying of second track in the ?super priority corridor? to run trains in both the directions, senior officials said.

The second track will soon be connected with the ?third-rail system? (electricity line) that has been laid between both the tracks, they added.

?The trial run was halted due to the third-rail system laid down next to it to supply power to the train as safety measures during laying of the second track. Work of laying first track between ISBT and Vijay Nagar Square on the elevated corridor has also been initiated,? said a senior official, wishing anonymity.

Discom has served a 10 MVA electricity connection to Indore Metro rail. So, a 17-km long electricity panther line was laid from Ujjain?s Jaitpura situated ultra-high-voltage power grid to TCS Square via SAIMS Hospital. For Indore Metro train, a 33 KV electricity line has been laid on 17 high monopoles through 510 ampere panther conductor costing around Rs 17 crore, a senior discom official said.

All three coaches of Indore Metro are parked in the depot till the trial run restart.

The trial run, which will continue for around six months, will have to pass all the safety and other norms, while this duration will also be needed for construction of stations and other facilities.
