ZF expands into Indian Railways with gearbox supply order

ZF Group, a leading global mobility technology company, has entered the Indian railway sector with its first major order to supply powerpack gearboxes for rail applications. The German engineering firm will deliver gearboxes for diesel-electric locomotives used by Indian Railways, marking its expansion beyond the automotive and commercial vehicle markets in India.

The company’s Pune manufacturing facility will handle production, localisation, and testing, reinforcing its commitment to the Make in India initiative. ZF’s move aligns with its strategy to diversify across transport sectors and support India’s modernisation of rail infrastructure through high-performance, efficient drivetrain systems.

ZF officials noted that this milestone underscores the company’s growing partnership with Indian public sector undertakings and its intent to expand into new mobility and industrial applications across the country.
