Andhra Charts Roadmap To Be National Logistics Hub

Andhra Pradesh has unveiled a comprehensive roadmap to become a national logistics hub, aiming to achieve the lowest logistics costs in India and match global standards. The plan presented at a ministers and secretaries conference on February nine sets out investments across highways, railways, ports and airports and introduces technology driven reforms.

The State will develop 3,358 km of national highways over three years at a cost of Rs 760 billion (Rs 760 bn), while 12 state highways covering 709 km are slated for upgradation. Officials said these projects will strengthen east–west connectivity and link industrial corridors such as VCIC, HBIC and CBIC with export gateways.

On railways, the State plans to eliminate all level crossings by constructing 774 overbridges and underbridges at an estimated cost of Rs 145 billion (Rs 145 bn), of which 372 projects have been sanctioned. Major railway infrastructure worth over Rs 3 trillion (Rs 3 tn), including new lines and high speed rail proposals, is scheduled for commissioning between 2026 and 2029.

Air connectivity will expand with Bhogapuram International Airport at 96.8 per cent completion and expected to be operational by June 2026, and nine new greenfield airports are planned including Amaravati, Srikakulam, Nagarjuna Sagar and Kuppam. Tenders have been floated for Dagadarthi Airport and feasibility studies for water aerodromes at nine tourism sites have been completed.

Ports are progressing with Ramayapatnam, Mulapeta, Machilipatnam and Kakinada SEZ at 75 per cent, 65 per cent, 50 per cent and 32 per cent respectively, while fishing infrastructure in Phase one worth Rs 15.23 billion (Rs 15.23 bn) is nearing completion and Phase two harbours are being retendered under EPC with Sagarmala two point zero support. A unified logistics intelligence dashboard and bilingual mobile application are under development for real time cargo tracking, truck booking and predictive analytics, and Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav allocated Rs 12.83 billion (Rs 12.83 bn) to the Infrastructure and Investments Department for 2026-27 to underpin the integration of infrastructure, digital systems and sustainable practices.
