The monthly District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting in Kohima reviewed road restoration, waste management, water supply and other development issues on September 22. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem, with Advisor for School Education Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome attending as DPDB chairman. The Board agreed to recommend road maintenance proposals under National Highway-29 to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation. One proposal covers an 18-km stretch from Ayush Hospital at Sakhabama to Pudunamei via Kezoma for heavy motor vehicles. Another covers the section from NH-02 Phesama Junction to NH-02 Kipfuzha for light motor vehicles. Dr Yhome directed that a meeting be held with contractors and companies executing road works to ensure compliance with maintenance provisions and proper payment of labour cess in the State. The Board also examined Kohima’s Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan 2026, including source segregation, waste-stream categorisation, the target of freeing dumpsites and five waste pathways. Officials highlighted the need to strengthen the waste-management chain, governance mechanisms and Extended Producer Responsibility. The Deputy Commissioner reminded Bulk Waste Generators of their obligations. Establishments with a floor area of 20,000 square metres or more, water consumption of 40,000 litres per day or more, or daily solid-waste generation of 100 kg or more fall under the prescribed criteria. Such generators must segregate and hand over dry, sanitary and special-care waste to the local body, while wet waste can be handled through composting, biomethanation or other approved technologies. The Board decided to organise a donation drive under the Ni-kshay Mitra Initiative 2026 for economically weaker tuberculosis patients. Members were encouraged to support patients with Rs. 500 per month for six months, while funds from the common pool would also be used. The meeting also considered shifting Bumble Bee Inclusive School, reviewed the Mima Water Supply Facility and disaster-response measures, and directed departments to submit Reform Utsav 2026 measures by October 5.
