MMC, ASCI Sign MoU to Strengthen Scientific Solid Waste Management

Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) and the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote scientific solid waste management and strengthen the capabilities of municipal officials. The partnership is aimed at supporting sustainable urban development and the creation of environment-friendly cities.

MMC Commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy and ASCI Director General N Ramesh Kumar exchanged the agreement during a capacity-building programme on sustainable and circular solid waste management held in Hyderabad on Saturday. The programme brought together institutional and municipal representatives to discuss the need for improved waste-management systems in urban areas.

The partnership will focus on training municipal personnel, improving operational practices and building institutional capacity. It is also intended to help civic officials apply modern waste-management methods more effectively and support more consistent implementation at the field level.

Sessions during the programme covered approaches to managing solid waste sustainably, efficient municipal operations and practices designed to support environmental conservation. Discussions also addressed the importance of translating planning and training into practical measures for waste collection, processing and broader civic management, based on the programme’s stated focus on field-level implementation.

Special Chief Secretary for Metropolitan Administration and Urban Development Jayesh Ranjan attended the inaugural session. The agreement represents a collaboration between a municipal corporation and a public-management institution to strengthen the knowledge and systems required for scientific waste management. Through training and institutional support, MMC and ASCI will work towards improving municipal preparedness and encouraging sustainable practices in urban areas.
