NIT Srinagar Holds E-Waste and Plantation Drives Under SCDPM 6.0

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar conducted e-waste collection, cleanliness and plantation drives on Wednesday as part of the Ministry of Education’s Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters (SCDPM) 6.0 and the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme. The initiatives were organised under the leadership of Director Anurag Mishra.

The e-waste collection activity was held at a designated location on the campus and encouraged faculty, staff and other members of the institute community to separate electronic waste from general waste. The initiative promoted recycling and responsible disposal practices as part of efforts to maintain a cleaner campus.

The institute also organised a plantation drive to support environmental sustainability. Faculty members and administrative staff participated in a Swachhata pledge and a cleanliness campaign covering multiple campus locations. Mess and canteen operators, shopkeepers and other service providers were also engaged in efforts to improve cleanliness and ensure proper waste disposal.

As part of the campaign, NIT Srinagar began identifying obsolete physical and electronic files for disposal in accordance with record-retention requirements. Jitendra Gurjar, nodal officer for SCDPM, said the exercise was focused on improving institutional cleanliness and speeding up the disposal of outdated materials while encouraging collective participation in maintaining an organised and environmentally responsible campus.

A stakeholder meeting held on October 27 was used to review and plan the identification and segregation of e-waste. The institute said the disposal of identified materials was being undertaken in accordance with established procedures, covering both electronic items and outdated records. The activities formed part of the institute’s wider effort to strengthen waste management, record administration and environmental responsibility across the campus.
