The cement demand-supply gap in Uttar Pradesh is expected to continue for few more years as the demand will continue to outpace capacity additions. The state consumes about 22 mn tonne of cement a year, thanks to a large number of infrastructure and housing projects underway, both at the institutional and retail level. Almost 75 per cent of this is met with imports especially from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, since the total capacity of cement units in the state is only 6 mn tonne.
