The Central Government has launched an Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) to improve the distribution and transmission systems in urban areas at Rs 32,600 crore. Of this, the Centre´s share is about Rs 25,350 crore. Distribution transformers and consumers will be metered to find out precisely where power theft is taking place. Implementation of IT in the distribution sector and strengthening of distribution network will be done. All distribution companies, including private ones, will be eligible under this scheme.
