Karnataka sets up panel to supervise rail works

The Karnataka Government has set up a high powered co-ordination committee under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, S V Ranganath to monitor the progress of various railway projects in the state. The committee will coordinate with the Ministry of Railways to review the progress on a monthly basis. The state government also urged the railways to expedite projects in the state to avoid cost escalation. During 2010-2011, the state had released Rs 498 crore towards its share for railway projects, but only Rs 276 crore has been utilised till now.
