UltraTech Cement net dips 18 per cent

UltraTech Cement, a part of the Aditya Birla Group, suffered a hit in its net profit for the quarter ended December 31, 2009, due to its exposure to the southern market.

The company’s net profit during the quarter dipped 17.65 per cent to Rs 196 crore from Rs 238 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. Its net sales grew marginally to Rs 1,652 crore from Rs 1,531 crore up 1.3 per cent.

The company produced 4.4 mn tonne of cement in the quarter. Sales volume of cement jumped 12 per cent.
