Mohali administration sets sand rates at Rs 21 per cubic feet

The Mohali administration has set rates for the sale of sand and gravel in the district and has additionally reserved three zones as legal sites for buying sand and gravel.

Mohali deputy commissioner Isha Kalia has warned of strict steps against those found guilty of selling sand and gravel above set costs. Values of crushers and retailers have been set in the three zones of Handesra, Majri and Mubarakpur. Panchayats can obtain free sand from any mining quarry to conduct development works. A strict step will be taken against any retailer or crusher owner who charges over the specified prices.

In the Mubarakpur zone, customers can obtain quality sand from a crusher for Rs 18 per cu ft. Yet, retailers in and around the Mubarakpur zone will sell their best quality sand at a maximum load of Rs 21 per cu ft with loading at their price. In the Handesra zone, customers can obtain crusher sand at a maximum load of Rs 20 per cu ft. In the Majri crusher block zone, crusher sand can be purchased at loading for a maximum of Rs 17 per cu ft. Retailers will sell the best quality sand with loading up to a maximum of Rs 20 per cu ft at their own cost.

As per the DC, according to the guidelines released by Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, any panchayat can get sand from any mining site free of cost for developmental works after obtaining certification by the government involved BDPO. She said that under the new mining policy released by the Punjab government, any customer could buy loading sand or gravel directly from mining sites for Rs 5.50 per cu ft. Due to this, people are obtaining sand in the market at much lower costs than before.
