CIL's coal supply hikes 16 per cent in April

On Monday, CIL (Coal India) has reportedly disclosed that the coal supply to the power sector rose 15.6 per cent to 49.7 million tonne last month due to the high demand of dry fuel from electricity plants, adding that it has planned to further augment its dispatches, especially to power plants in the coming months. Presently, several parts of the country have been grappling with a power crisis, due to the intense demand for coal continuing unabated driven by an upward spiral in the electricity generation.

CIL has pushed up its supplies to the country's power plants to 49.7 million tonne in April 2022. This is 6.7 million tonne more compared to April 2021 when the dispatch was 43 million tonne. CIL is one of the major suppliers of fossil fuel to the power sector and accounts for more than 80 per cent of the domestic coal output.
