The Delhi Government's 1,500 MW gas-based plant in Bawana was pitched as a solution to meet the power requirements of the state. However, the shortage of gas to operate the plant has made it more of a liability. Discoms have not yet sourced power from the plant this summer season but they may be left with no choice. Currently, there is an increase in the demand for power and this year, it is expected to be about 6,200 MW.
