India's LPG Adoption Sees Significant Growth

India has witnessed a remarkable surge in LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) adoption, with over 320 million citizens now using the clean cooking fuel. This substantial growth is significantly driven by the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), a government initiative aimed at providing LPG connections to underserved households, particularly in rural areas.

Launched in 2016, PMUY has transformed the landscape of cooking in India, making it safer and more environmentally friendly. The programme focuses on empowering women and reducing the health risks associated with traditional cooking methods that rely on solid fuels like wood and coal. These traditional fuels produce harmful smoke, contributing to respiratory diseases and environmental pollution.

The success of PMUY is evident in its statistics. As of now, over 96 million LPG connections have been issued under the scheme, significantly contributing to the overall increase in LPG users across the country.
