Vedanta arm Balco conducts tests for biodiesel in smelter operations

Bharat Aluminium Company (Balco), a Vedanta subsidiary, announced that a trial using biodiesel in smelter operations had been successfully completed. The project gains significance in light of its ambitious goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 or earlier.

In the pilot test, the company preheated "ladles," which are vehicles used to transport hot metal in its molten state from potlines to cast houses, using biodiesel.

When burned, biodiesel, a type of fuel made from organic matter, emits significantly fewer greenhouse gases than other fuels.
