Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has developed a boiler for coal-based power plants in order to address power woes. This year during April-July, a total of 3,55,499 bn units were generated of which 2,94,833 bn units was by the coal-fired thermal plants, accounting for 82 per cent of the overall power generation. Known as ´fuel flexible supercritical boilers,´ the new equipment enables to produce electricity with 100 per cent domestic coal or 100 per cent imported coal. Currently, companies are required to mix both in a fixed ratio before blending. With the introduction of the new boiler, there will not be any such requirement.
