India to build 19 atomic power plants in Twelfth Plan

Signalling its resolve to go ahead with the nuclear programme, the Union Government has planned on installing 19 new atomic power plants that were planned during the Twelfth Plan period. However, nuclear power projects will not be launched in the remaining period of the Eleventh Five Year Plan, ending March 2012. India now has 20 nuclear power plants that generate 4,780 MW.
