Indo-Lanka power plant to commission soon

The much-delayed agreements between India and Sri Lanka on the 1,000 MW Sampur coal power plant and the Indo-Lanka under-sea cable are to be concluded in the near future. Clearance for the second power plant is likely to be obtained by next month.

The MoU on Sampur was signed way back in 2006 and the projects were to start-off by June 2008. However, India wants this to be implemented as soon as possible, since it is looking forward to purchase power from Sri Lanka. AEG, Electrotherm plan solar developments in India AEG Power Solutions and Electrotherm have inked a pact to develop solar business in India with a minimum goal of 100 MW deployed over a period of 36 months. The first installations are targeted for the fourth quarter of this year and the beginning of 2011 in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
