Gautam Solar Modules Power 20 MWp Himalayan Project

Solid Solar has commissioned an approximately 20 MWp solar power project in Malna/Patara village, Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand. Developed on hilly terrain, the plant uses Gautam Solar’s n-type TOPCon bifacial modules across a single hill at more than 5,000 feet above sea level. It is presented as a large-scale installation designed for demanding site conditions.

The modules generate electricity from sunlight reaching both their front and rear sides. Solid Solar said the plant had delivered stronger performance than several other solar installations in the surrounding region, although output varies with site and operating conditions. The project demonstrates the use of site-specific engineering where conventional flat-terrain methods are unsuitable.

Steep, rocky and uneven ground, a remote Himalayan location, wildlife risks, harsh climatic conditions and limited accessibility complicated construction. Solid Solar created a detailed 3D model of the hill to map elevation changes and plan module and support-structure placement according to the landscape. This helped the teams use available space and sunlight more precisely.

Most of the site could not be reached by conventional vehicles. A ropeway transported materials and modules across difficult sections, while controlled sliding, a manpower-based chain-link system and mules were used where the ropeway was impractical. Portable handheld equipment replaced heavy piling machinery for rock work, and chemical grouting secured columns.

Managing Director Mukesh Agrawal said the commissioning reflected detailed planning, engineering coordination and the development of solutions suited to a single uneven hill. Gautam Solar Managing Director Gautam Mohanka said the project showed how TOPCon bifacial technology could be deployed in challenging geographical conditions through site-specific engineering and execution. The plant adds to Uttarakhand’s renewable energy infrastructure.
