Rajasthan Becomes Leading Hub for Decentralized Solar Power

Rajasthan is quickly emerging as a leading centre for decentralized solar energy in India, complementing its broader progress in the solar power sector. This development was recently highlighted by Arti Dogra, Chairman of the state's power distribution companies (DISCOMs), who pointed to the state's consistent advancements in renewable energy.

Dogra noted that Rajasthan had made remarkable strides in decentralized solar power over the past year. She attributed this progress to the effective on-ground implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (Kusum Yojana), a central government scheme aimed at promoting solar energy adoption among farmers and rural communities.

As a result of these initiatives, the state has witnessed the establishment of 684 decentralized solar power plants, collectively offering a generation capacity of 1305 Megawatts (MW). A senior official from the energy department explained that out of these, 592 plants have already become operational. This marks a significant move toward achieving greater energy self-reliance and sustainability within the region.

Officials emphasized that these decentralized plants not only contribute to Rajasthan's renewable energy goals but also play a crucial role in empowering rural areas and supporting agricultural productivity. The state’s focus on local-level solar generation is seen as a strategic step in diversifying its energy mix and reducing dependency on conventional sources.

Overall, Rajasthan’s achievements in this space underscore its growing leadership in decentralized solar initiatives and its commitment to clean, inclusive energy development.
