Renewable Energy Ministry Advances E-Waste Disposal under Campaign 6

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched focused measures to collect, segregate and dispose of electronic waste as part of Special Campaign 6 for Disposal of Pending Matters. The initiative is intended to institutionalise Swachhata, improve resource management and promote more efficient administrative practices.

Under the campaign, MNRE has identified 5,337 obsolete and e-waste items for disposal. The items are being auctioned, a process that has generated Rs. 1.14 mn in revenue so far while also helping the ministry clear approximately 600 sq ft of office space.

The disposal programme covers the systematic identification and segregation of obsolete electronic equipment before it is sent for responsible disposal. The approach is aimed at reducing the accumulation of unusable materials, improving workplace organisation and ensuring that available office space is used more effectively.

The campaign also links e-waste management with wider efforts to improve cleanliness and administrative efficiency across government offices. By disposing of obsolete items through auction, the ministry is combining the recovery of value from surplus equipment with the removal of material that is no longer required for official operations.

MNRE’s measures form part of sustained efforts under Special Campaign 6 to address pending matters and strengthen environmentally responsible workplace practices. The initiative places emphasis on better handling of electronic waste, orderly storage and the timely removal of items that have reached the end of their useful administrative life.
