India Crosses 100 GW Solar PV Module Manufacturing Capacity under ALMM

India has achieved a historic milestone of 100 GW solar PV module manufacturing capacity enlisted under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) for Solar PV Modules. This reflects the country’s rapid strides in building a self-reliant solar manufacturing ecosystem, aligned with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the global push for clean energy transition.

Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, said, “India has achieved a historic milestone – 100 GW Solar PV Module Manufacturing Capacity under the ALMM, a remarkable rise from just 2.3 GW in 2014! Driven by the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and transformative initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for High-Efficiency Solar Modules, we are building a robust, self-reliant solar manufacturing ecosystem. This achievement strengthens our path towards Atmanirbhar Bharat and the target of 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030.”

The Government of India has been actively working to make India self-reliant in solar PV manufacturing and position the country as a global leader in the sector. Initiatives such as the PLI Scheme for High Efficiency Solar PV Modules and measures to create a level playing field for Indian manufacturers have catalysed this growth, expanding domestic module manufacturing capacity from just 2.3 GW in 2014 to over 100 GW today.

The ALMM Order, issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) on 2 January 2019, saw its first list published on 10 March 2021 with an initial capacity of around 8.2 GW. In just over four years, capacity has grown more than twelvefold, crossing 100 GW. The number of enlisted manufacturers has also risen significantly—from 21 in 2021 to 100 manufacturers operating 123 units across the country.

This growth reflects contributions from both established firms and new entrants, many of whom have adopted high-efficiency technologies and vertically integrated operations, creating a diverse and competitive manufacturing landscape that caters to domestic and global markets.

The achievement reinforces India’s commitment to achieving 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030 while contributing to global decarbonisation efforts. MNRE remains committed to further strengthening the solar manufacturing ecosystem through continued policy support, infrastructure development, and innovation.

UK Sanctions Nayara Energy in Crackdown on Russian Oil

The United Kingdom has announced fresh sanctions on 90 entities, including Indian refiner Nayara Energy Limited, in its latest bid to curb Russian oil revenues and weaken President Vladimir Putin’s war funding. The sanctions, unveiled jointly by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the UK Treasury, aim to disrupt networks supporting Moscow’s crude exports amid the ongoing war in Ukraine. According to the FCDO, the new restrictions are intended to “strike at the heart of Putin’s war funding” by targeting firms and assets that enable Russia’s energy trade. “..
