Singareni Seeks Odisha Support for Pithead Power Plant

Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) has sought the support of the Angul district administration for establishing a pithead thermal power plant near the Naini coal mine in Odisha. SCCL chairman and managing director Buddhaprakash Jyoti raised the proposal during a meeting with Angul district collector Mohammad Abdaal Akhtar on Tuesday.

The company has identified land in Tukuda and Jarapada as suitable for the proposed power plant. Jyoti also requested land for a rehabilitation and resettlement colony for 40 families displaced by the Naini coal mine, along with administrative assistance for completing the related rehabilitation process.

He sought an early meeting of the rehabilitation and periphery advisory committee to decide on the implementation of the rehabilitation package, land acquisition for the colony and other matters concerning affected families. The meeting is intended to help SCCL progress with the resettlement arrangements linked to the mining project.

SCCL also requested support for completing the Chandipara-Jarapada bypass road, for which it has deposited Rs. 350 mn. The Majhika bypass is being pursued to facilitate coal transportation while reducing inconvenience to local residents. SCCL has assured the administration that it will fund land acquisition for the road. The Angul collector assured the company of district-level cooperation for its proposed activities. SCCL directors Gowtam Potru and L.V. Suryanarayana, executive director for coal movement B. Venkanna and general manager for coordination T. Srinivas attended the meeting.
