Union Minister Visits World’s First Integrated RE Storage Project

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy & Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Pralhad Joshi, visited the world’s first and largest gigawatt-scale Integrated Renewable Energy Project at Pinnapuram, near Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, on Friday. He applauded the project's scale and the pace of its development.

Spearheaded by Greenko, a global leader in energy transition and decarbonisation solutions, the USD 4.2 billion initiative includes 4,000 MW of solar, 1,000 MW of wind, and 1,680 MW of pumped hydro generation. With a storage capacity of 10,080 MWh per day in a single cycle, this dispatchable and carbon-free energy infrastructure supports emerging green industries such as green steel, green aluminium, and green hydrogen.

A Global Milestone in India Addressing the gathering, Shri Pralhad Joshi stated,

“Witnessing the Integrated Renewable Energy Storage Project at Pinnapuram — the world’s first and largest of its kind — right here in our country, is a matter of immense pride and a testament to India’s green energy potential under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

He also acknowledged the Government of Andhra Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, for its progressive and enabling policies that facilitated the execution of this pioneering venture.

Technical Brilliance and Global Impact Shri Anil Chalamalasetty, Group CEO & MD of Greenko, highlighted that the project integrates solar, wind, and pumped storage to support global decarbonisation, particularly in hard-to-abate industries. In addition to environmental impact, it is expected to spur economic growth, boost ancillary industries, and generate employment across the region.

Once fully operational, the project is projected to avoid 3.3 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually, significantly contributing to India’s energy security. Through Greenko’s Intelligent RE Cloud Storage Platform, aligned with India’s ‘One Nation, One Grid’ policy, the project aims to produce the world’s lowest-cost green molecules, propelling decarbonisation across global markets.

Earlier in the day, the Union Minister conducted an aerial survey of the site and inspected various components of the mega-scale facility, underscoring the Government’s strong commitment to India’s clean energy future.
