Uttar Pradesh to Procure Solar Power at Rs. 2.91 per Unit

Uttar Pradesh is set to procure solar power at tariffs ranging from Rs. 2.91 to Rs. 2.99 per unit after the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) approved 10 power purchase agreements covering a combined capacity of 19.7 MW. The projects are being developed under Component C-2 of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme.

In its October 13, 2026 order, UPERC approved Bhaskar Renewable Energy’s 1.7 MW project in Chitrakoot at the lowest tariff of Rs. 2.91 per unit. APS Developers received approval for a 2.3 MW project in Mathura at Rs. 2.93 per unit, while Shakti Renew’s 1.3 MW project in Kanpur Nagar was approved at Rs. 2.95 per unit.

The remaining projects were approved at Rs. 2.99 per unit. They include projects by Divy Power in Hapur, Harshimran Singh in Amroha, Babna Solar Energy in Faridabad, Prashant Yadav in Mathura, Khoshpura Solar Energy and Nanauta Solar Energy in Saharanpur, and APS Developers in Mathura. Their capacities range from 0.5 MW to 6.8 MW.

The projects will supply power to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL) through grid-connected solar photovoltaic plants linked to agricultural feeders and distribution substations. The procurement process was conducted by the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) and UPPCL through tariff-based competitive bidding.

The projects form part of a larger tender initially floated for 3,205 MW, later revised to 2,553.5 MW after changes in identified substation and feeder capacities. Bids invited in July 2024 attracted 153 bidders for 494 substations covering 1,529.1 MW, while Letters of Award were issued for 566 substations with an aggregate capacity of 1,686.4 MW. UPERC directed the developers to take proactive steps for implementation and timely completion.
