Vedanta Power Q2 Sales Rise 26 Per Cent to 5.59 bn Units

Vedanta Power reported a 26 per cent year-on-year increase in power sales to 5.59 bn units in Q2 of the current fiscal, compared with 4.43 bn units in the corresponding quarter a year earlier. The company attributed the growth to stronger plant performance and improved availability across its portfolio.

Power sales during the first half of the fiscal year reached 10.82 bn units, marking a 32 per cent year-on-year increase. Higher generation at Meenakshi Energy and a turnaround at the Jharsuguda Thermal Plant were the main contributors to the company’s sales momentum during the period.

Meenakshi Energy recorded a 111 per cent year-on-year rise in Q2 power sales to 1.47 bn units. Its sales for the first half stood at 2.82 bn units, an increase of 160 per cent from the year-earlier period. The performance reflected operations across its expanded 1,000-MW capacity base, which strengthened the plant’s contribution to Vedanta Power’s generation portfolio.

At the Jharsuguda Thermal Plant, power sales increased 186 per cent year-on-year to 873 mn units in the September quarter. Sales for the first half rose 59 per cent to 1.56 bn units, while the plant availability factor improved to 98 per cent from 43 per cent in the year-earlier quarter. The higher availability supported increased generation and sales.

The Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant continued to provide a consistent operating base for the company’s portfolio. Vedanta Power said it was focused on supplying reliable power while supporting India’s changing energy requirements. The company’s shares were listed on the BSE and the National Stock Exchange in June, with the listing ceremony held on June 15 and led by Vedanta Group chairman Anil Agarwal.
