WBSEDCL Floats Tender For 10 MW Floating Solar Insurance In Purulia

WBSEDCL has issued a limited e-tender for comprehensive insurance of its 10 megawatt (MW) floating solar project at the PPSP Upper Dam in Purulia, West Bengal. The tender, INS-10/2026-27, invites empanelled insurers to quote for one year of cover from 23 September 2026 to 22 September 2027. The policy will protect civil structures, plant machinery and electrical equipment against operational and external perils.

WBSEDCL has set a reinstatement value for civil structures at Rs. 177.8 million (mn) and a sum insured of Rs. 591.4 mn for plant and machinery and electrical equipment under fire, STFI and earthquake covers. The tender requires Machinery Breakdown insurance for the same assets to cover failures from faulty workmanship, electrical short-circuiting, failure of safety devices and inexperienced operation. Burglary and theft cover is specified with claims allowed on the basis of a General Diary entry without mandatory submission of a final police report.

The standard fire package must include STFI at full limit and earthquake cover, and incorporate an escalation clause of up to five per cent and a 72-hour clause; the basis of indemnity is reinstatement or replacement. Saferisk Insurance Brokers Pvt. Ltd., holding a 51 per cent lead share, and Alliance Insurance Brokers Pvt. Ltd., holding a 49 per cent share, are appointed as mandated co-brokers to represent WBSEDCL.

The tender process began on 1 September 2026 at 10:00 hours, with pre-bid queries due by 3 September at 14:00 hours and a pre-bid meeting at 15:00 hours. Bids may be submitted until 9 September at 13:00 hours, with technical bids opening on 11 September at 13:00 hours and financial bids at 14:00 hours the same day. The document does not specify any EMD or Performance Bank Guarantee requirement and selection will follow a Quality cum Cost Based Selection approach that will weigh the quoted premium alongside factors such as claim ratio and tender participation.

Inside a Pumped Storage Project: How It Actually Balances the Grid

What happens when the sun sets just as electricity demand starts to rise? Solar generation falls, but homes, factories and businesses still need power. Pumped storage power plants help bridge this gap by storing surplus electricity as gravitational potential energy in elevated water and releasing it when demand increases. As India adds more solar and wind capacity, this ability to shift electricity across hours is becoming increasingly important for grid flexibility. What is a Pumped Storage Power Plant?A pumped storage power plant (PSP) is a long-duration energy storage facility with two reser..
