We have doubled numbers in the last two years

Amarnath Ramachandran, President, LeeBoy India Construction Equipment (P) Ltd
Headquartered in Bengaluru, LeeBoy India designs and manufactures high performance road construction, maintenance and excavation equipment that enhances the operational efficiency and productivity of companies in the infrastructure sector. Amarnath Ramachandran, President, LeeBoy India Construction Equipment (P) Ltd, elaborates further in conversation with SHANKAR SRIVASTAVA and SHRIYAL SETHUMADHAVAN.

Tell us about your products.
We have fully loaded machines and what we have on a standard backhoe loader, for example, is what competitors have as optional on their global models. At the same time, it is available at a reasonable price. When all the products are packaged, you will see that the machines are for road construction with high productivity, fuel efficiency and ergonomics. This is what we are focusing on.

With the road sector seeing some traction, how are you gearing yourself for future requirements?
We have doubled numbers in the last two years. We have crossed the 100 grader mark in a calendar year. This is considering that in 2014, only a total of 290 graders were sold in the entire Indian market; the Supreme Court rulings in the peripheral expressways of Delhi with a nine-month completion time has resulted in a large amount of machinery deployed on just those two projects. Various other EPC projects are building up momentum in the sector.

Tell us about your range of excavators for mining.
We have one model, which is good for road construction and quarries. This machine is packaged with a Sandvik breaker for generating aggregate. The machines are very productive for clearance work, trenching and loading as well.

How does your equipment meet the dusty Indian operating conditions?
All our tanks have pressurised breathers, so dirt cannot get in. We offer piston hydraulics, and our high quality filters are imported from Europe. We do not face any problem with contamination and have emergency stop switches for panic situations. There are also about another 120 interlocks programmed into the transmission to avoid damage in the case of the motor grader.

Elevated floors!

Raised access flooring, also called false flooring, is a less common interiors feature than false ceilings, but it has as many uses – if not more.A raised floor is a modular panel installed above the structural floor. The space beneath the raised flooring is typically used to accommodate utilities such as electrical cables, plumbing and HVAC systems. And so, raised flooring is usually associated with buildings with heavy cabling and precise air distribution needs, such as data centres. That said, CW interacted with designers and architects and discovered that false flooring can come in handy ..

The Variation Challenge

A variation or change in scope clause is defined in construction contracts to take care of situations arising from change in the defined scope of work. Such changes may arise due to factors such as additions or deletions in the scope of work, modifications in the type, grade or specifications of materials, alterations in specifications or drawings, and acts or omissions of other contractors. Further, ineffective planning, inadequate investigations or surveys and requests from the employer or those within the project’s area of influence can contribute to changes in the scope of work. Ext..
