There are evenings when an industry pauses to take stock of how far it has travelled. And then there are evenings that remind it of how much further it can go. The 24th BKT Tyres Construction World Global Awards, held on October 15, 2026, at Aurika, Mumbai International Airport, was one such occasion. Bringing together some of the country's most influential construction and infrastructure leaders, the awards celebrated the companies delivering at scale, the individuals shaping the industry's direction and the projects redefining India's built environment.Held as part of the India Construction Festival 2026, the awards presented 45 honours across corporate rankings, nominated categories and individual recognitions. From India's fastest-growing construction companies to organisations making their mark on the global stage through Engineering News-Record (ENR) rankings, the evening recognised achievement across the breadth of the industry. At its heart was a simple but significant message: excellence is not measured by growth alone, but by the quality, resilience and impact of that growth.Measuring the quality of growthWelcoming the gathering, Pratap Padode, Founder and Editor-in-Chief, ASAPP Info Global Group, set the tone by drawing attention to what distinguishes the Construction World Global Awards from conventional industry recognitions. The awards, he emphasised, have never been intended as a popularity contest or a celebration of one exceptional financial year. Their credibility rests on sustained performance, rigorous assessment and independent jury evaluation. For the principal awards recognising India's fastest-growing construction companies across four categories, companies are assessed on six years of financial performance before proceeding to the qualitative evaluation by an eminent jury. Governance, business strategy, resilience, management capability and the sustainability of growth all form part of the assessment. This year, however, the methodology underwent a significant change. After 23 years, the jury challenged the evaluation framework with a fundamental question: What is the quality of the profit? The resulting change placed greater emphasis on cash profits relative to operating revenue, moving beyond the conventional assessment of revenue and profit-after-tax growth.Cash is capability, Padode observed, explaining that cash generation determines a contractor's ability to mobilise resources, invest in equipment and technology, withstand delayed payments and absorb market shocks. It also provides the financial discipline to walk away from irrationally priced contracts. The change reflects the realities of a construction industry operating under considerable pressure. Rising labour and input costs, delays in project execution, subdued road awards in some segments and cautious private capital expenditure continue to test contractors. While infrastructure execution remains substantial, the sustainability of the project pipeline is equally important. As Padode pointed out, India's infrastructure ambitions require stronger project preparation, deeper private investment, higher productivity and better construction quality. Technology, from digital twins and drones to sensors, automated testing and AI-enabled monitoring, can transform execution, but cannot compensate for weak project preparation or irrational procurement. The lowest construction price does not necessarily produce the lowest infrastructure cost, he cautioned, highlighting the risks of awarding contracts primarily on the basis of price. The message was particularly relevant for an industry where contractors shoulder substantial execution, financial, commodity, labour and contractual risks, often while operating on thin margins. The companies recognised at the awards, therefore, had demonstrated not merely how fast they could grow, but how well they could grow.Indian companies on the global stageAn important dimension of the evening was the recognition of Indian companies in ENR's prestigious Top 250 International Contractors and Top 225 International Design Firms rankings. The association with Engineering News-Record, New York, enables Construction World to acknowledge companies competing in the international construction and engineering arena.Larsen & Toubro secured the 11th position among the world's Top 250 International Contractors, an outstanding achievement that Padode described as a milestone for Indian contracting. Shapoorji Pallonji and Company, Elsewedy Electric, Afcons Infrastructure, Global MEP, Gönüç İnşaat and Cemindia Projects were also recognised in the contractors' rankings. In the design category, Sidara Group ranked ninth, followed by Larsen & Toubro at 22nd. Dorsch Consult (India), Archetype Group, Tata Consulting Engineers, RINA Consulting and Gestion Integral del Suelo – GIS KSA also secured positions among the Top 225 International Design Firms. While acknowledging these achievements, Padode called for greater international representation by Indian engineering and contracting companies. India's ability to execute large and complex projects at home must now translate into a stronger global presence. The recognition of L&T at Rank 11 was also acknowledged by Tanveer Padode, CEO during his presentation on IMPACCT, ASAPP Info Global Group's business intelligence platform. Congratulating L&T and Cemindia Projects on their ENR achievements, he observed that the presence of Indian companies among the world's leading contractors reflects the industry's growing capabilities.Tracking the business of constructionThe evening also offered an insight into the changing dynamics of the contracting business through Tanveer Padode's presentation on IMPACCT. Drawing on project intelligence and bidding data, the presentation examined how leading contractors secured business during the previous financial year, their bidding strategies, conversion rates and the opportunities emerging across infrastructure segments. The data highlighted the scale of competition. Larsen & Toubro, for instance, had undertaken 542 bids in the public segment alone during the year, for projects above Rs 100 crore. The presentation also identified the growing importance of utilities, hydropower, water and wastewater, mining and government buildings, alongside the established transportation and roads segments.Looking ahead, IMPACCT's analysis identified a pipeline of opportunities across roads, railways, utilities, ports and power. For FY 2026-27, tenders worth Rs 7.1 lakh crore had been tracked across the relevant categories, while 144 tenders exceeding Rs 1,000 crore remained on hold. With more than 150,000 projects tracked from concept to execution, IMPACCT aims to provide contractors, equipment manufacturers and suppliers with actionable intelligence on upcoming opportunities, project locations and market demand. As Tanveer put it, the ambition is to become the Bloomberg of construction.Recognising the people behind performanceThe most personal recognitions of the evening went to the recipients of the Person of the Year 2026 award in the private sector: Vneet S. Jaain, Managing Director, Adani Green Energy, and Manish Mohnot, Managing Director and CEO, Kalpataru Projects International. The joint recognition celebrated two leaders whose contributions have helped shape major businesses and strengthen India's presence in the infrastructure and energy sectors.Sharing his perspective on Kalpataru's journey, Manish Mohnot, Managing Director and CEO attributed the company's success to three fundamental principles: delivery, people and profitable growth.Focus on delivery has been central to the organisation's approach, he said, with quality execution and long-standing client relationships forming the foundation of its reputation. Equally important has been building an organisation around teams and people who have stayed and grown with the company. For Mohnot, however, the distinction between growth and profitable growth is critical. We've never run behind top line. It's been profitable growth, he explained, emphasising the importance of building sustainable relationships with clients rather than pursuing expansion at any cost.He also identified Kalpataru's decision to enter international markets nearly two decades ago as a defining moment in its evolution. Today, international operations account for approximately 45 per cent of its order book, which is close to $3 billion, with the company operating in more than 75 countries.Vneet S. Jaain, Managing Director, Adani Green Energy, accepting the recognition on behalf of his colleagues and teams, placed infrastructure within the larger context of national development. He emphasised that the true value of infrastructure extends beyond the physical assets being created.Every kilometre of transmission network, every unit of electricity generated, every road, port, airport or other critical asset that we build has a purpose beyond the physical infrastructure itself. It connects people, enables businesses, creates opportunities, strengthens communities and contributes to India's economic progress, he said.Referring to the Adani Group's nation-building philosophy under the leadership of Gautam Adani, Jaain highlighted the responsibility that accompanies India's infrastructure ambitions. The challenge, he noted, is not simply to build more, but to build better, faster and more responsibly. He identified technology, innovation, execution standards, safety and empowered teams as critical to this transition, while underscoring the growing importance of renewable energy, transmission and storage in securing India's energy future. This award carries my name. I consider it a recognition of that collective effort, he said, acknowledging the teams working across geographies and challenging environments to deliver projects of national significance.Celebrating companies setting benchmarksThe fastest-growing construction company awards recognised organisations across four categories. In the Prime category, SPML Infra, Vascon Engineers and GPT Infraprojects were recognised. The Medium category honoured Patel Engineering, Ceigall India, Varindera Constructions, Ahluwalia Contracts and J. Kumar Infraprojects. Cemindia Projects, Dineshchandra R. Agrawal Infracon and Dilip Buildcon received recognition in the Large category, while NCC, Kalpataru Projects International and Afcons Infrastructure were recognised in the Ultra Large category.Larsen & Toubro also received the distinction of Largest and Most Profitable Construction Company of the Year. The Nominated Awards recognised achievements across project management, innovation, construction delivery, emerging businesses, integrated solutions, international projects, product innovation and construction equipment. Among the recipients were Dr Prabhakar Baranwal of Godrej Properties as Project Manager of the Year; Kalpataru Projects International for Project Innovation of the Year and International Project of the Year; Phenix Construction Technologies for Construction Project of the Year; and Jakson Infra as Emerging Company of the Year.Other recognitions included GMMCO for Integrated Solution Provider, Nippon Paint India for Product Innovation of the Year, Ashoka Buildcon for Project of the Year – Roads, and CASE Construction Equipment for Construction Equipment of the Year. Dr Er Sonali Nasikkar of The House of Abhinandan Lodha was recognised in the Woman in Construction category. For the recipients, the awards represented the collective effort behind successful project delivery.Speaking about Vascon Engineers' business, Sanjay Muthaybhavar, Director – Western India, highlighted the company's presence across its real estate and EPC verticals, with the latter contributing the larger share of its revenues. He emphasised that quality, speed and safety remain central to its approach, supported by teams capable of executing projects across multiple locations.Varinder Kumar Garg, Chairman and Managing Director, Varindera Constructions, which was recognised in the Medium category, spoke about the company's ability to execute projects in challenging environments. Its portfolio spans institutional buildings, railway infrastructure, data centres and healthcare facilities, with projects in India and international markets including the Maldives and Mauritius. For Garg, the differentiator is not necessarily the nature of the project or its location, but the strength of the execution team. The company's work on the National Sports University in Imphal, undertaken despite considerable challenges, exemplifies this approach.Similarly, Samir Patel, CEO, SPML Infra's energy storage division, highlighted the company's role in India's evolving energy storage landscape, including its involvement in a 5 GWh manufacturing plant. He pointed to the importance of pan-India execution capabilities in supporting the country's renewable energy ambitions and the Make in India initiative.Together, these perspectives underscored an important aspect of the awards: behind every business milestone is a network of people, technical capabilities and decisions that make complex projects possible.Thirty years of chronicling transformationThe evening also marked a milestone for Construction World with the unveiling of its 30th Annual Edition, The Infrastructure Reset.Thirty years after the publication began chronicling India's construction and infrastructure journey, the landmark edition brings together 27 industry stalwarts to examine the forces shaping the sector's next phase of growth. From finance and technology to sustainability and talent, the contributions offer perspectives on how the industry must adapt, innovate and prepare for an increasingly complex future. The edition is a definitive look at FY 2025-26 and the developments influencing India's construction landscape. It reflects the publication's continuing commitment to bringing together industry intelligence, informed perspectives and the voices of those at the forefront of change.Introducing the publication, Padode described the 30th Annual as a special milestone in Construction World's three-decade journey and urged the audience to take home their copies, calling the edition worth its weight in gold for anyone connected with the industry. The value of recognitionIn her closing address, Falguni Padode, Co-Founder and Group Managing Editor, ASAPP Info Global Group, reflected on the significance of sustaining an awards platform over more than two decades. She acknowledged that an awards evening is built on months of planning, coordination and commitment, but questioned what the industry would lose if such a platform did not exist. Her answer was unequivocal: an opportunity to aspire.A place where companies see excellence recognised amongst their peers and say, next year that should be us, she observed.Recognition, she said, travels far beyond the awards venue. It returns to offices, project sites and team meetings, reminding people that their efforts have been noticed and that the next milestone is worth pursuing. An award acknowledges achievement, but a respected platform keeps ambition alive. She also brought the evening back to the people behind the achievements, reminding the audience that the impact of construction companies cannot be measured merely by their turnover or order books.Their real contribution lies in the journeys they shorten, the communities they connect, the employment they generate and the possibilities they create.Behind every trophy are difficult decisions, demanding deadlines and teams whose finest work happens far away from any spotlight, she said. The awards were presented by BKT Tyres, with Autodesk as the Powered by partner and Afcons Infrastructure as the Co-powered by partner. The Gold Partners were Dineshchandra R. Agrawal Infracon, Kalpataru Projects International, GMMCO, Larsen & Toubro, Cemindia Projects and JSW Better Everyday. Vascon Engineers and J. Kumar Infraprojects were the Silver Partners, while Shyam Steel Industries, Gulf Oil and Varindera Constructions were the Associate Partners. The awards were held in association with Engineering News-Record (ENR), with IMPACCT as the Business Intelligence Partner. The Supporting Partners were the Indian Institute of Materials Management, National Highways Builders Federation, Builders' Association of India, International Road Federation and Mumbai First. Construction World, Equipment India and Infrastructure Today were the Official Media Partners. As the evening drew to a close, the significance of the awards extended beyond the trophies presented on stage. They recognised an industry that continues to build through complexity, competition and change, and the people whose decisions and determination shape its progress. The trophies may carry the names of the winners, as Falguni Padode reminded the gathering, but the country will wear their work proudly. And perhaps that is the most enduring measure of excellence: not simply what an organisation builds, but how its work changes the country.Construction World Person of the YearManish Mohnot, Managing Director & CEO, Kalpataru Projects InternationalVneet S.
