The government made infrastructure plans to access Delhi airport from cities in-and-around Delhi-NCR in the least possible time. For this, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has been tasked with construction of Dwarka Expressway. This much-awaited road project is on track for a December inauguration. It will have an eight-lane elevated structure along with the nation’s first 4 km long eight-lane tunnel. Work on the tunnel connecting the Kapashera border to NH-8 is 80 per cent complete. NHAI claims the tunnel between the Haryana border and IGI airport terminal 3 in Delhi will massively cut down travel time. Moreover, there will be two tunnels till IGI terminal 3. The first 3.6 km long tunnel connecting Delhi-Haryana border to T3 has eight lanes and is touted to be the longest shallow depth tunnel project in the country and widest urban road tunnel in the country. The second tunnel near the airport will stretch 2.5 km long from Kapashera border to NH-8 and NH-8 to T3 of Indira Gandhi airport in Delhi. Work on the second tunnel is expected to be done by end of 2023
