Indian Railways aims to operationalise over 1,300 km of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) by the year-end. Significant milestones have been achieved, including the completion of track linking for the Sonnagar-Ludhiana stretch. The corridor traverses Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Bihar. Additionally, a 538 km section between Sonnagar and Dankuni in West Bengal is proposed under a PPP model. The EDFC will enhance transportation for steel, food grains, cement, fertilisers and other goods. Most of the corridor is expected to be operational by the end of 2023.
