Hindalco Industries has signed a partnership agreement with Italy-based Metra to manufacture high-speed aluminium rail coaches. To help make passenger coaches for Vande Bharat trains, Hindalco plans to invest `20 billion for the project. Suburban metro systems and high-speed intercity and long-haul rail traffic in Europe and Japan use aluminium railcars. Last October, the company launched the country?s first all-aluminium lightweight freight rake, which enables higher speeds and more pay loads per trip and also saves over 14,500 tonne of CO2 over its lifetime.
