Tata Steel seeks transgenders for a job in earth-moving machinery

Tata Steel's West Bokaro Division has only accepted applications from transgender people for the position of Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM) operator or trainee.

Candidates must have passed Matriculation and be born between 1st September 1981, and 1st September 2003, to be considered for the position. Candidates will be evaluated through a written test, an interview, and a practical orientation test, followed by a medical examination.

Tata Steel has a history of hiring members of the LGBTQ community. The India Workplace Equality Index (IWEI), the country's first comprehensive benchmarking study to measure and enable LGBT+ inclusion efforts, named the company a Top Employer for LGBT+ inclusion in 2020.

In a press release, the company said that the IWEI Top Employers list is the definitive list of India's best employers for lesbian, gay, bi, and trans employees. Tata Steel's designation as a Top Employer 2020 reflects the company's commitment to advancing LGBT+ equality. Tata Steel is one of 18 businesses recognised in the Silver category.

This was the first edition of the IWEI Top Employers list, which included 52 companies ranked as bronze, silver, or gold, depending on their final score. The Index's participants make it clear that they support workplace equality for LGBT+ people.

In 2019, the steelmaker implemented a new human resource policy that allows LGBTQ+ employees to declare their partners and take advantage of all HR benefits allowed by law.
