Allocation of 1,200+ units in three Bhubaneswar affordable housing projects

In the second phase of affordable housing projects in the city, more than 600 beneficiaries were given keys to their dream homes, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 1,290 since the inauguration of the projects.

It was reported by officials that in the first phase of allotment, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), which had executed the housing projects for the urban poor at Chandrasekharpur, Satya Nagar, and Subuddhipur, had handed over the keys of homes to 659 beneficiaries.

In the subsequent phase, 631 more beneficiaries received their houses, officials stated. According to data, the highest allotment in the second phase was made in the Buddha Vihar project in Chandrasekharpur area, where 361 beneficiaries received keys to their homes. Similarly, in the Satya Nagar project, 121 more families obtained their houses, and at Subuddhipur, 149 beneficiaries moved into their dream homes.

It was mentioned that during the inauguration in November the previous year, 303 families received their houses in Buddha Vihar, 326 in Satya Nagar, and 30 beneficiaries in Subuddhipur.

The total number of ready-to-move-in homes in the three projects amounts to 1,722. Additionally, in March of this year, a fourth project was inaugurated at Chandrasekharpur, where 455 beneficiaries received keys to their houses. BDA officials mentioned that the allotment in the housing project is ongoing, and the number of occupants is expected to increase soon. These projects have been executed by BDA under the 'Housing for All' scheme of the state government, aiming to provide quality living, especially to slum dwellers who were displaced or affected by the execution of various development works in the capital.

The dwelling units have a total carpet area of 250 square feet, comprising one hall, one bedroom, one bathroom, and one kitchenette. The beneficiaries are required to pay their share of Rs 1.5 lakh for acquiring a home.

Balwant Singh, vice-chairman (BDA), stated, "In its endeavor to improve the quality of urban life, BDA has come up with such housing projects which aim to provide quality housing to the poor. The projects are equipped with all necessary amenities."
