CMRS authorises metro’s PCMC-Phugewadi elevated stretch

The metro’s PCMC-Phugewadi elevated stretch obtained approval from the commissioner of metro rail safety (CMRS).

The CMRS had inspected the total stretch and the five stations situated on it last month. The permission has paved the way for the Metro’s operations for commuters. MahaMetro authorities, while approving, said that the CMRS had additionally given some minor recommendations, which would be implemented shortly. A similar inspection of another priority stretch — Vanaz to Garware College — was planned for next week.

Hemant Sonawane, general manager (PR) at MahaMetro, told the media that they obtained permission for the PCMC-Phugewadi route. All significant works between PCMC to Phugewadi stations have already been achieved, barring some minor works at the stations which would be completed in the coming few days.

The space will be ready for commuter services. The five stations on the route comprise Pimpri station outside the PCMC building, Sant Tukaramnagar station, Nashik Phata, Kasarwadi, Phugewadi. The CMRS inspection on the PCMC-Phugewadi road continued for three days. All the safety aspects of the commuters’ activity at the stations, platforms, approaches at the stations were reviewed during the inspections. Every station is provided with a CCTV surveillance network and has an emergency alarm system for commuters.

A MahaMetro official told the media that every station on the route has at least two entry-exit points. More such points will be made according to the requirements. The platforms at the stations can accommodate trains with six coaches, though, at the initial stage, the intent is to run three-coach trains on both routes. Meanwhile, MahaMetro told the media that there was a plan to set up solar panels at the stations.
