Hindustan Zinc retains LEED Platinum for Yashad Bhawan

Hindustan Zinc’s corporate headquarters, Yashad Bhawan, in Udaipur has retained its LEED Platinum certification for sustainable building performance. The 85,000-plus sq ft facility scored 84/100 under the LEED v4.1 Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (EB O+M) rating system.

Yashad Bhawan first received LEED Platinum certification in 2016. The latest recertification recognises its performance across energy, water, indoor environmental quality, materials and resource management.

The building recorded 95.5 per cent performance in Indoor Environmental Quality and 100 per cent in Materials & Resources. It also scored 86.7 per cent in Water Efficiency, 80 per cent in Energy & Atmosphere and 78.6 per cent in Location & Transportation.

Its sustainability measures include energy-efficient systems, water conservation and management, indoor air-quality measures, green cleaning protocols, integrated pest management, sustainable procurement and waste-diversion practices.

Amarendu Prakash, CEO, Hindustan Zinc, said the retention of the certification reflected the company’s approach of integrating efficiency and sustainability into its operations. He added that the company was extending the same approach through renewable energy integration, resource circularity, water stewardship and technology-led efficiencies.

Hindustan Zinc said it is currently 3.32 times water positive and follows Zero Liquid Discharge practices across its operations. The company has increased clean power’s share in its energy mix to 22 per cent and is targeting 70 per cent renewable power by FY2028, as part of its pathway towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.

The company is also undertaking biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration initiatives across its operating locations and integrating electric mobility and cleaner logistics into its operations and supply chain.

The initiatives form part of Hindustan Zinc’s Sustainability Goals 2030, covering climate action, water stewardship, biodiversity, circular economy and responsible operations.
