Hindustan Zinc Q2 Net Profit Surges 142% to Rs 64.12 Bn

Hindustan Zinc reported a 142 per cent year-on-year (YoY) increase in net profit to Rs 6,412 crore for the second quarter of FY27, supported by record metal production, higher prices and lower zinc production costs. The company recorded its highest-ever quarterly EBITDA of Rs 9,285 crore, up 108 per cent YoY, with an EBITDA margin of 62 per cent.

Revenue from operations increased 77 per cent YoY to Rs 15,093 crore, driven by higher metal prices, increased production, improved by-product realisations and a stronger US dollar.

The company achieved record second-quarter mined metal production of 271 kilotonnes (KT), up 5 per cent YoY, while refined metal production rose 7 per cent to 264 KT. Silver production increased 20 per cent to 173 tonnes, contributing significantly to profitability.

Zinc cost of production, excluding royalty, declined 29 per cent YoY to $703 per tonne. The reduction was attributed to improved mined grades, increased production, higher renewable energy consumption and better by-product realisations, partially offset by higher input costs and lower domestic coal usage.

For the first half of FY27, Hindustan Zinc recorded revenue of Rs 28,840 crore, up 77 per cent YoY, while EBITDA increased 108 per cent to Rs 17,359 crore. Net profit rose 143 per cent to Rs 11,881 crore, with silver contributing approximately 45 per cent to overall profitability.

Amarendu Prakash, Chief Executive Officer, Hindustan Zinc, highlighted the company's record production performance and emphasised its focus on disciplined growth, artificial intelligence-led innovation and diversification into critical minerals to support India's energy transition.

Amit Gupta, Chief Financial Officer, Hindustan Zinc, said the company's record financial performance, strong cash generation and EBITDA margin of 62 per cent reflected its operational efficiency and financial discipline.

The company also secured a Letter of Intent for the Gundlupet Rare Earth Element and Yttrium Block in Karnataka, strengthening its diversification into critical minerals.

Hindustan Zinc generated free cash flow of Rs 6,389 crore before growth capital expenditure during the quarter. As of 30 September 2026, the company held cash and gross investments of Rs 17,439 crore against outstanding borrowings of Rs 6,171 crore. It also maintained an AAA credit rating from CRISIL.

During the first half of FY27, the company contributed Rs 13,027 crore to the national exchequer, including Rs 3,724 crore to Rajasthan through taxes, duties and mining royalties.
