IGBC Pune Hosts Green Sabha to Promote Low-Carbon Construction

The Confederation of Indian Industry’s IGBC Pune Chapter successfully hosted the Green Sabha at PYC Gymkhana, bringing together architects, developers, manufacturers, and technology experts to highlight the role of green products, materials, and technologies in reducing the carbon footprint of Pune’s construction and real estate sector.

The event formed part of World Green Building Week, observed from September 8-13, 2025, which showcases the role of sustainable buildings in enhancing health, boosting local economies, and building resilience against extreme weather.

The Green Sabha opened with a welcome by Poorva Keskar, Chair, IGBC Pune Chapter, followed by a session on the CII GreenPro ecolabel by Praveen Kumar Soma, Principal Counsellor, CII-IGBC. GreenPro, a Type-1 ecolabel accredited by the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN), helps buyers identify sustainable products, with over 11,500 already certified.

A panel discussion, ‘GreenPro for Pune: Enabling Sustainable Growth in Construction & Real Estate’, featured Hrishikesh Manjrekar, Samali Khinvasara, Tanay Paranjape, Alok Kale, and Pratik Potnis, moderated by Pranati Shroff. The experts examined adoption barriers, business case studies, and policy incentives to drive greater uptake of certified products.

The event also included a technical session by Karl Wadia, Senior Principal, Architect Hafeez Contractor, who stressed circular construction practices and innovative material choices for urban decarbonisation.

Amar Builders were felicitated with the GreenPro Facility Services plaque for two green projects, the first in Maharashtra and second in India to earn this recognition. Megapolis Saffron also received the Silver Certification plaque under the IGBC Green Residential Society rating.

The Green Sabha concluded with a call for collective action to accelerate Pune’s transition to sustainable, climate-resilient growth through wider adoption of green products and practices.
