MHADA HQ Undergoes Major Cleanliness and Record Disposal Drive

In accordance with the directives of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and as per the instructions of Deputy Chief Minister and Housing Minister Eknath Shinde, a 100-day action plan has been launched to improve administrative efficiency and enhance citizen services. The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has started the immediate implementation of this plan across all its divisional offices in Mumbai and other parts of the state.

Under the guidance of MHADA VP & CEO, Sanjeev Jaiswal, IAS, a special cleanliness and record classification drive is being carried out at MHADA’s headquarters in Bandra East on February 8 and 9, 2025. As part of this initiative, cleanliness activities are being undertaken along with the classification and systematic disposal of outdated records.

Today, Jaiswal personally inspected various offices in the MHADA headquarters for nearly three hours, reviewing their functioning. During the inspection, he directed employees to dispose of old and unused items, including outdated computers, tables, chairs, and cabinets. He also instructed officials to remove non-operational vehicles in a proper manner.

This two-day special drive has seen the active participation of nearly 700 officers and employees of MHADA's Mumbai headquarters, despite it being a non-working day. In today’s exercise, official records are being categorised into A, B, and C groups, while outdated D-category records are being eliminated. Approximately one lakh files have been classified in a single day, and the process of disposal and documentation is being carried out at a rapid pace. To support this effort, more than 500 workers and cleaning staff have been assigned to the task, along with the necessary transport and equipment.

During his visit, Jaiswal personally inspected every office across all five floors of the MHADA headquarters. To ensure proper implementation of the cleanliness drive, a special committee has been formed under the guidance of Chief Engineer Mahesh Jeswani. This committee has been given the responsibility of overseeing the removal of unusable furniture and unnecessary items.

While the headquarters remains closed to the public for this drive, all employees have been present to actively participate in the initiative. Jaiswal emphasised that improving citizen services is a top priority and a fundamental duty of government employees. To provide a better experience for visitors, Mr. Jaiswal instructed that proper seating arrangements and drinking water facilities be made available throughout the premises. He also directed that specific visiting hours be designated for public interactions so that citizens do not face inconvenience. He further emphasized the importance of field visits by officials to review housing projects and instructed that such visits be scheduled at the end of the week. He also stressed that proper communication must be maintained so that citizens are aware of these visits in advance.

Since MHADA is a public-facing organisation, Jaiswal has directed the establishment of a Citizen Facilitation Centre to improve the delivery of services. Today, he personally visited the site and reviewed its progress. He also assessed the implementation of a Visitor Management System, which will streamline visitor interactions. During the inspection, he visited the Hirakani Kaksha, a dedicated facility providing essential amenities for breastfeeding mothers and expectant women, on the MHADA premises and reviewed the safety measures and facilities available for women employees and visitors.

Jaiswal also assessed the efficiency of online services provided by MHADA’s various divisions. He stressed that MHADA’s website should be fully equipped with necessary information so that citizens can easily access details without needing to file Right to Information (RTI) requests. Each department has been instructed to display a Citizen Charter at the entrance of their offices for public awareness. He also reviewed the functionality of the E-Office system, which aims to enhance efficiency through paperless administration.
