Naidu Approves Road and Housing Construction in Amaravati

N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister, Andhra Pradesh, approved the construction of roads in Amaravati Zone 7 and 10 with an allocation of Rs 27.23 billion during the 44th meeting of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) held at the state secretariat.

Among the several key decisions, Naidu also sanctioned Rs 1.02 billion to complete pending housing projects by the Andhra Pradesh Township And Infrastructure Development Corporation (APTIDCO), setting a deadline of June 12 for their completion.

The Chief Minister further mentioned that the government had approved projects worth a total of Rs 472.88 billion for CRDA in Amaravati, underscoring the government's on-going commitment to improving infrastructure and housing in the state capital. He emphasised that this recent approval was expected to accelerate Amaravati's development, positioning it as a core hub for growth in the region.

Municipal administration and urban development minister P. Narayana provided details of the decisions made at the CRDA meeting, stating that 1.18 lakh houses would be completed. He added that APTIDCO had become a non-performing asset due to delays. He explained that these houses, sanctioned between 2014 and 2019 by the Centre, were delayed due to various issues. During this period, a total of 7,01,481 houses were approved, with permissions granted for 5 lakh houses and 4,54,706 houses being grounded. By 2019, the construction of 3,13,832 houses had commenced.

The minister assured that no financial burden would fall on the public for the development of Amaravati. He clarified that the funds for these projects would be repaid through the sale of land acquired via pooling from farmers and that no loans would be used to cover the development costs. He also stated that the development of Amaravati would be completed within three years.

Narayana highlighted that the state government had adopted a planned approach to ensure balanced development across all 26 districts of Andhra Pradesh. He mentioned the allocation of several Central institutions to various districts, including the Tribal University for Vizianagaram, IIM for Visakhapatnam, and IIT for Tirupati. The government is also focusing on establishing industrial hubs, such as a drone hub in Kurnool and manufacturing units in Rayalaseema.

The minister also stated that the government is working on developing ports and satellite cities through land pooling, following the Amaravati model, in various locations. In Visakhapatnam, efforts are underway to bring back major companies such as TCS and Google, and in Kurnool, a drone hub is being set up on 350 acres.
