First municipalities of Arunachal get Rs 5.50 cr budget

In Arunachal Pradesh, the State's first municipalities-Itanagar and Pasighat have got Rs 5.50 crore budget provision to carry out various activities like maintenance of office establishment and vehicles.

The State Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said this in Itanagar on August 13 after inaugurating the office of the Itanagar Municipality, the state's first urban civic body. A multi-purpose cultural hall at Naharlagun has been remodelled to house the Itanagar municipal council.

The Chief Minister said that the State government has also decided to appoint an expert committee to study and examine the devolution of powers to municipal councils.

Tuki asked the councillors to educate people towards tax payment for better revenue generation. He remined them that state earned accolades for highest percentage of revenue collection in the country.
