Ajay Gupta Discusses Practical Civil Engineering at SGT

SGT University’s Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering & Technology, Gurugram, organised a guest lecture on “Professional and Real World in Civil Engineering” on 7 October 2026. The session featured Ajay Gupta, Founder and Principal Consultant, Perceptive Ideas Consulting Engineers.

Gupta discussed structural engineering, value engineering and constructability, highlighting the importance of assessing how designs translate into site execution. He explained why engineers must consider construction challenges alongside technical design requirements.

The discussion also covered Building Information Modelling (BIM), artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies. Students explored how these tools support design checks, validation and the identification of potential problems before construction begins.

“Civil engineering students need to understand what happens when a design moves from paper to an actual project,” Gupta said.

He emphasised that professional practice requires informed decision-making, an understanding of execution challenges and familiarity with changing technologies.

The lecture connected classroom concepts with practical project requirements, giving students insight into industry expectations and the skills they need to develop as they prepare for professional roles.
